Five steps that are easy to confuse

Section 1 of 5 · 1 min read

A medicine can be authorised without a particular service being ready to prescribe it. Work through the route in order: the medicine’s licensed use, the national recommendation, the local funded service, the clinical assessment and the individual prescription. Each answers a different question.

For oral Wegovy and Foundayo, authorisation alone does not establish NHS funding. The medicine pages link the relevant official announcements and current appraisal information.

Start with your nation and local pathway

Our four-nations guide separates the current arrangements. In England, an ICB helps organise local NHS services; other nations use their own organisations and pathways. Ask your GP which service is relevant and how a referral is made.

Oviva and other commissioned providers

Section 3 of 5 · 1 min read

Oviva’s referral information is organised by local NHS area. Our service guide also explains regional Second Nature and Morelife examples. A named provider is not a guarantee of a named medicine.

Bring useful questions to the appointment

Section 4 of 5 · 1 min read

  • Which pathway is being considered, and why?
  • What records or previous results are needed?
  • Which service receives the referral?
  • How will I know whether it is accepted?
  • What support is available while I wait?
  • Who will coordinate monitoring and ongoing care?

Use our appointment preparation guide to organise your notes.

If private care is part of the discussion

Understand both the complete cost and the clinical handover. A first-order offer may differ from repeat pricing. Med Easy uses Monj, iGovy, Ogovy and Dayo as its specialist price references.

Read how private and NHS care fit together before assuming prescribing or follow-up will transfer.
