Oviva: start with the local referral route

Section 1 of 5 · 1 min read

Oviva’s NHS referral page describes consultant-led remote specialist care and asks clinicians to select the ICB. Routes differ: Devon uses a single point of access or secondary care, while Nottingham and Nottinghamshire use a local hub. Its service includes dietary, psychological and coaching support, with medication where appropriate.

Patients can read Oviva’s getting-started information, then discuss the appropriate route with their GP. A website enquiry is not the same thing as an accepted NHS referral, and a referral is not a promise of a particular medicine.

Second Nature: a mid Essex example

Section 2 of 5 · 1 min read

NHS Essex’s local service page identifies Second Nature for an outreach tirzepatide service reached by GP referral in mid Essex. It expressly says specialist-service acceptance does not guarantee Mounjaro, and existing private patients still need to meet NHS criteria when referred.

Use the NHS area page as the starting point for this example. Do not assume an independently purchased programme or a provider’s general contact form is part of that local NHS contract.

Morelife: a Sussex specialist pathway

Section 3 of 5 · 1 min read

The Sussex Tier 3 service page names Morelife UK, a contractual catchment and local GP referral systems. It describes a waiting list and medicine provision under the NHS Sussex Wegovy policy.

Check the current catchment and referral instructions with the local service. A postcode search can help locate information, but the receiving team confirms whether a referral is valid and what care is available.

Useful questions before you join a list

Section 5 of 5 · 1 min read

Ask how acceptance will be confirmed, whether the service offers telephone or accessible alternatives, and who to contact while waiting. Keep any referral reference and the receiving team’s details. Avoid submitting sensitive health records to an unrelated comparison form.

These are verified examples, not a complete directory or a ranking of quality. For the rules behind a referral, see Mounjaro access, Wegovy access and Right to Choose in England.

Your questions, answered

Can I apply directly to Oviva and receive NHS treatment?

Read the route for the relevant NHS programme and local area. A provider may have patient information, enquiries and private services alongside clinician referral instructions. Use the matching NHS route and confirm acceptance with the receiving team; submitting a general website form does not establish that an NHS referral has been made.

Why is the provider available in another county but not clearly listed in mine?

The example may relate to a particular contract, catchment or referral service. Ask your own NHS commissioner or referring practice which programme covers you. Save the local page and its date instead of assuming that a neighbouring area’s announcement establishes the same arrangements for your registered practice.

Does an NHS programme provide the same service as the provider’s private package?

Do not assume the scope, entry criteria or prescribing arrangements are identical. Ask for the information about the NHS-commissioned programme itself. Compare the actual assessment, support, contact route and review process. The organisation’s name alone cannot tell you which elements belong to its separate private offer.
